My 5 Biggest Life Goals
To us it’s all about you. We’re here to give you the gift of captured memories in all their beauty. The secret glances, the emotional embraces, the real love, and the real story. More
My biggest life goals are probably a lot different than other peoples, and they’re really personal actually. They’re things I struggle with daily. They’re things I yearn for daily. They’re things I work, and hope, and strive, and long for. They make me who I am, and who I am choosing to be. They really are my biggest life goals.
1. To be the best mother I can be
“When you teach a boy, you teach an individual, but when you teach a girl, you teach a whole generation”. I have come to feel the weight as well as the power from that statement, with 2 (almost 3) children, I have witnessed the effects of my example, my teachings, and my demeanor, sometimes in humbling situations and others are accompanied with joy. While I will go on to do many great and wonderful things in my life, I know that the most important role I will play here is that of a mother. And do I have the courage to turn the word ‘failed’ into ‘learned’? Do I have the courage to keep on hoping and loving even if it’s more difficult than I imagined? Do I have the courage to fill my mind with education and learn from the best books? I’d like to think yes. I do. Some days I don’t feel it too much, but the answer is yes.
I listened to a wonderful talk yesterday about service. They were talking about a story in the Bible with loaves and fishes. Jesus Christ said, feed the people. And they looked at each other and said, “well we only have enough for a boys lunch”. Were they wrong? No they weren’t–they did not have enough. But they gave what they had. And Christ multiplied it. As a mother, do I have enough? Probably not. Definitely not. But if I give what I have, I’m trusting it will be multiplied. But that requires that I continually give, and I continually course-correct when I make mistakes. So yes, this is one of my biggest life goals. And if I keep working and growing, it will bring much happiness.
2. To be the best wife that I can be
Consequently this is closely intertwined with my first biggest life goal. Being the best wife that I can will show my children what kind of love, kindness, and sacrifice is required for building and sustaining healthy relationships. It is the first and main pattern of relationships they will see for the rest of their life. If I want to raise children who are kind, loving, and considerate, then I must be those things as a wife–they are always watching. However, so my kids grow up kind and considerate isn’t the only reason I want to be the best wife that I can be.
My husband is the person I will create so much with and we will accomplish far greater and for good when we work together in unity and love. I’ve learned much about unity the past couple years, and it has little to do with just rubber-stamping what the other thinks on our own minds. So much of it is working to understand, working to not worry about being right, and working to align our goals, so that we actually are in unity. I will do more with him than I will without. So yes, this is one of my biggest life goals, because as I continue to work and grow at it, this goal will also bring much happiness in my life.
3. To learn self mastery
This one is a big one! And it encompasses so much. Self mastery over thoughts, emotions, appetites, and desires! When I am in control of my mind, my body, my emotional state, wow! It’s like being invincible! I cannot say I’ve arrived, but the little moments of success have blown. my. mind. So much joy! So much peace! So little overburdened and angry! It really is the way to go.
It can be challenging though. Sometimes I know a different reaction is better and the one I’m choosing (that I don’t feel like I’m choosing, but I am) is not helping me, but even knowing that isn’t enough! We have to learn tools to process thoughts, emotions, appetites, and desires! We have to learn tools to master them! If we can learn them, then we can practice them. When we practice them sometimes we fail and sometimes we succeed, but it’s all on the trajectory of growth, and that is a beautiful beautiful thing my friend. This one is definitely a major life goal for me. So much happiness and peace will come from it!
4. Discover and fulfill what came here to do
This one runs deep. I believe very much so that I was born to do great things–specific things. But I don’t know what all of those things are yet! I have an inkling that my first 3 life goals are part of it though. Wendy Nelson said, “We have opportunities to fulfill our mortal missions, but we don’t have to. No one will make us. We have our agency to choose how we spend our time and energy, our talents and resources. In fact, what we choose to do is actually part of our testing. The choice is yours and mine. Will we choose to do whatever it takes to fulfill the wonderful missions for which we were sent to earth?” I’m working on that. I’m unsure I’m doing whatever it takes, but I think that having it as a life goal and thinking about it regularly is a good first step!
5. To see this beautiful earth
This one is a little more material than all my other life goals. I’m unsure how to pinpoint it, but I have always longed to travel and experience so much that this beautiful earth has to offer! I want to see and experience so many different cultures, cuisines, architectures, and life! I am fascinated with it and am constantly dreaming of where to see next. I am always in awe of how different a climate and landscape can be from one continent to the next (even one city to the next!). This earth is incredible, and I just want to see it! All of it!
So that’s where I’m at. Those are my 5 biggest life goals. They’re pretty big, pretty deep, and will require a lot of work, diligence, and patience. But I’m committed! What are your 5 biggest life goals? (scroll all the way down to comment!)
Have peace of mind knowing your most
important memories will be captured.
